Other Printing Terms
- Four Colour Process
- The reproduction of full-colour artwork through the combination of four process in colours- magenta, cyan, yellow and black - in specified intensities.
- Four-Colour Separation
- A breakdown of full-colour copy into individual colour plates so that when printed in register, they produce a full-colour illustration.
- Indent Orders
- A term used when products are being manufactured to order. Usually when there is a customising required and a large quantity is ordered. This gives you the advantage of using exact PMS (Pantone Matching System) colours, and changing the design to fit exactly the purpose or campaign image. Indent order need to be of a giving minium quantity and have a given time period before required.
- Line Drawing
- A drawing using only lines and solids with no halftones. Usually used to give a detailed design and help identify optimum branding location on product.
- Reverse - Artwork
- When printing on a background that is similar to part of the branding, the artwork i.e. white on white, the text can be revered to print black on white.
- Set Up
- These are charges for the decorator to produce a plate or set up a machine to handle your branding or artwork. This involves a cost for the original project and usually is reduced with repeat orders, with all the circumstances i.e. size colours etc being identical.

- Decal Printing - Cups - Mugs - Glassware
- Similar to Plastisal Printing, this is a transfer produced and then with a firing or heat treatment adhered to a hard surface. These can be wrapped around items like pots and mugs, and gives up to 4 colour process.
- Digital Printing - T Shirts - Polo Shirts - Flags etc.
- This is a method suitable for giving a photographic image or producing small text. It is very quick and allows you to print smaller quantities. The image becomes part of the fabric and is resistant to fading and cracking.
- Engraving - Pens - Plaques - Metal - Glass etching
- Adds a premium to your product, especially popular on pens and plaques. Your branding will produce a subtle finish, however, on metals with a base, the colour of the base will be the artwork reproduced on the product.
- Embossing & Foil Stamping - Plastic - PVC - Leather - Cardboard
- On leather this form of decoration is most commonly used. Either "blind "embossing or you can have foil stamping incorporated. Foil Stamping is also used in personalising or monogramming products for the individual.
- Embroidery Apparel - Caps - Rugs - Bags
- Gives excellent branding on clothing, and general fabric finishes. Caps, Shirts, Backpacks. Colour is easily dealt with and the costing is produced by the size of the embroidery, which is measured by the number of stitches in your logo.
- Pad Printing - Plastic - Wood - Metal - Golf Balls Pens etc.
- Most used printing for it's savings in cost, on hard materials. This method can produce up to 4 colours on around 50mm area.
- Plastisol Printing - Caps - Clothing - Bags - Stress Balls- etc.
- This is a transfer, which allows us to use a detail artwork and reproduce it and have it heat applied to the product. Especially good with flexible items like Anti Stress items and unusual shaped articles.
- Puff Print - T shirts - Caps
- A screening process using "puff inks" - the print will puff up.
- Screen Printing - Garments - Caps - Bags - Fabric
- One of most common and economical ways to print especially on larger volumes, on fabric such as apparel, bags etc. The results depend on the nature and weave of the material. It is usually most successful using a limited amount of colours, giving a good crisp image of your branding.
